Illinois Layoffs Hit Police, Libraries, Even Zoos - cbs2chicago.com

Belvidere hits the big time—Channel 2 in Chicago.

High school students in Belvidere, a small town near the Wisconsin border, recently walked out of school and marched in protest over budget cuts there.
Superintendent Michael Houselog said the district of 9,000 students is waiting for $2.8 million in overdue payments from the state. The district has notified 57 employees that their jobs could be cut.
"We know the number is not going to be 57 in the end, but there are going to be reductions regardless," Houselog said. "That will impact our students and our learning."
